Miami-Dade County, FL. — The Miami-Dade County Fair Expo Center hosted the Miami Gun Show this past weekend.
The new open carry law in Florida was a topic of interest there.
Following an appellate court decision, Florida law began allowing open carry of weapons on September 25; nevertheless, there are certain limitations and exclusions.
To lawfully possess a firearm, you must be at least 21 years old.
Openly carrying a firearm is forbidden in some places, such as courtrooms, schools, and government facilities, and must be done so in a suitable holster or sling.
A court in Broward County has also decided that parts of the Parkland Gun Law are unconstitutional. In particular, the clause prohibiting adults under 21 from carrying or concealing a weapon.
Joel Walkes III, 19, was accused when an officer discovered him carrying a hidden weapon when his automobile broke down on a Plantation road, leading to the ruling.
Frank Ledee, a circuit judge, agreed with Walkes, stating that the state’s age restriction was unconstitutional.
Following the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, which claimed 17 lives, Florida raised the age limit.
Those affected by gun violence have harshly criticized the decision.
