Tropical Storm Imelda is threatening the Florida coast with rip currents and wind advisories

As the system churns offshore, Tropical Storm Imelda is threatening parts of Florida’s East Coast with rip currents and wind advisories.

Imelda was 220 miles east-southeast of Cape Canaveral at 5 p.m. on Monday, traveling north at 9 mph.

According to the NHC, Imelda is predicted to make a dramatic shift to the east-northeast on Tuesday.

According to the forecast track, the system’s center is predicted to begin moving away from the northwest Bahamas on Monday afternoon before turning east-northeast and departing the southeast United States by mid-week, but approaching the island of Bermuda.

65 mph is the maximum sustained wind speed.

986 mb is the minimum central pressure.

Eleuthera, the Abacos, Grand Bahama Island, and the neighboring keys are among the areas of the Northwestern Bahamas under a tropical storm alert.

Bermuda has been placed under a hurricane watch.
