Monday’s intense afternoon thunderstorms in South Florida caused significant traffic delays during the evening rush hour, flooded streets, and stranded cars.
Edgewater struck hard.
Flooding has again created a temporary canal on 23rd Street close to Biscayne Boulevard in Miami’s Edgewater area. Locals claim that the issue arises whenever there is a lot of rain.
Many residents felt that the city’s use of two massive pumps to force gallons of water back into Biscayne Bay was insufficient.
Michael Blunt, a three-year local resident, stated, “It’s really, really annoying that I have to deal with this and the flooding.” “I frequently have to roll up my pants and remove my shoes in order to walk through the water to get home.”
Cars are frequently left stuck in the thick puddles, according to another local who has lived there for four years:
“The street turns into an ocean whenever it rains. We were assured that this will be resolved, but nothing seems to have changed.
Weather warnings are issued
As two to four inches of rain fell in a short period of time, with some locations receiving up to two more inches, two different weather advisories were issued for South Florida: an Aerial Flood Advisory and a Flash Flood Alert.
Flooding immediately developed in low-lying and poorly-drained places, making the conditions particularly challenging.
Miami is experiencing flooding.
Little Havana and Tamiami also experienced flash floods, with streets submerged and traffic slowed to a standstill.
Major airports were affected by the storms that spread beyond the highways.
Disruptions to air transport
Weather-related issues caused dozens of cancellations and hundreds of delays at Miami International Airport. To temporarily halt flights, officials even issued a ground stop order.
The lengthy wait was criticized by passengers.
“I was hoping to work while I waited for my trip, so it’s disappointing. One traveler remarked, “I’ve wasted a lot of time.”
As storms passed across Broward County, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport likewise announced a ground stop.
