In Florida, the calendar is essentially the sole indicator that fall has arrived. It is challenging to identify the changing season because of the persistent summer-like heat and sunny days.
But don’t give up. When Florida harvest festivals are in full stride, you can visit a farm and experience fall for yourself.
Take part in the fun, which may include rides in hay-filled carts drawn by horses or tractors, clever mazes carved out of fields, and patches of pumpkins just waiting to be transformed into Jack O’ Lanterns.
These celebrations fall within the expanding category of agritourism, often known as agritainment. Agritourism, which combines tourism with agriculture, pushes farmers to provide not only food but also entertainment and education.
Tickets range from $12 to $28 per person, depending on the farm.

Ten Best Practices to Increase Your Safety and Enjoyment
1. Bring money. Vendors within the festivals frequently do not accept credit cards, even if they are accepted for admission. A few farms do, however, provide ATMs.
2. Don’t take your pet out. Your concern is much appreciated by farmers and farm animals.
3. Children should be accompanied by their parents.
4. Wear proper clothing. Since you will be exercising on uneven and rocky ground, it is advisable to wear shoes with narrow toes.
5. Activities that take place at night may require a flashlight.
6. Just in case, pack bug repellent. Additionally, since it’s a farm, be on the lookout for any hidden wasps, bees, or ants.
7. Bad weather can ruin a good time. Check farm websites and Facebook pages for updates, since some farms even halt operations on rainy days. Rainfall dates and return policies vary from farm to farm.
8. Due to irreversible damage, show consideration and refrain from littering or straying from the maze trails carved into the fields.
9. Remember your camera, or at the very least, make sure your phone is charged.
10. Keep in mind that farms have limited liability for loss or personal injury under state law. Be responsible and enjoy yourself.
