On Monday, October 13, the league revealed its preseason media poll, which predicted Florida basketball will win the SEC.
UF has been selected as the preseason favorite for the third time since the preseason SEC poll started; they were also selected as the preseason favorite in 2006–07 and 2010–11. Both of those seasons ended with the Gators winning the SEC championship. A select group of members of the SEC and national media participated in the preseason poll.
Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Arkansas were predicted to place second, after Florida.
Three members of the preseason All-SEC teams were also selected by the reigning national champions.
Alex Condon, a forward, made the first team after averaging 10.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game the previous season.
Thomas Haugh, a returning forward, and Boogie Fland, a transfer point guard from Arkansas, were both selected to the second team. Fland finished the previous season at Arkansas with 13.5 points and 5.1 assists, while Haugh averaged 9.8 points and 6.1 rebounds.
Otega Oweh of Kentucky was selected as the SEC Preseason Conference Player of the Year, which is noteworthy.
