Plant City, Florida – Florida’s newest sales tax holiday, which includes firearms, ammo, and recreational equipment, was introduced by Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday.
At a press conference in Plant City, the governor and Lt. Gov. Jay Collins gave remarks.
The tax vacation was extended.
The Backstory
As part of the state budget for 2025–2026, DeSantis demanded a “Second Amendment sales tax holiday” earlier this year.
Ultimately, lawmakers expanded the 2025 Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Season Sales Tax Holiday, which went into effect Monday, to include exemptions for firearms and ammunition.

Accessories for firearms include sights or optics, holsters, cleaning supplies, charging handles, pistol grips, and stocks.

Bows and crossbows
Arrows, bolts, quarrels, quivers, releases, sights or optics, and wrist guards are examples of bow and crossbow accessories.
Supplies for fishing and camping
$5 or less
Fishing gear or bait, if offered separately ($10 or less if many products are offered together)
$30 or less
Lanterns and flashlights for camping
Bags or tackle boxes
$50 or less
Stoves for camping
Foldable camping chairs
Transportable hammocks
Bags for sleeping

DeSantis discussed his ongoing efforts to reduce taxes, including property taxes and sales taxes, at the press conference on Monday.
“We’ve lived through a really tough period of inflation, prices at the grocery store, all these other things,” DeSantis stated. “Undoubtedly, as a state, we have no control over the national economy as a whole, including prices. That has an effect on us. The tax is the only thing we have control over.
